There’s a moment that comes for so many women ~ quiet at first, almost easy to dismiss.

Nothing is “wrong”, exactly. You’re coping. You’re functioning. You’re doing what needs doing.

And yet… something inside you keeps whispering:

This isn’t my whole life. There’s more than this.I can’t keep living like I’m not in my own story.

In the Moons & Runes books, Marianne Connor reaches that moment too.

By the time we meet her in Legacy, she’s leaving behind her old life as a GP and building a new one as a healer. Not because she’s reckless. Not because she’s chasing a fantasy.

Because the old identity stopped fitting. Because the life she’d outgrown began to feel heavier than the fear of change.

And if any part of you recognises that feeling… you may be standing at a portal too.

What I mean by “a portal”

A portal isn’t a dramatic reinvention montage. It’s not a perfectly curated “new me”.

A portal is the in-between.

It’s the space where your old life still exists… but it doesn’t feel like home anymore. Where the next chapter is calling… but you can’t quite see the path yet.

And the truth is: most women don’t step through a portal because they feel brave.

They step through because staying where they are starts to cost too much.

Here are three signs you might be closer to that threshold than you realise.

Sign #1: Your old identity feels heavy (even if it still looks “successful”)

This one can be confusing, because from the outside, your life might look fine.

You might be the capable one. The reliable one. The one who keeps it together.

But inside, it’s starting to feel like you’re wearing a version of yourself that no longer matches who you are.

In Legacy, Marianne doesn’t just leave a job. She loosens her grip on an identity she once needed to survive. And that’s a very different thing.

A gentle question to ask yourself:Where am I still performing a version of myself I’ve already outgrown?

One small step (no pressure):Choose one area of your life where you can be 5% more honest this week. Not dramatic. Not destructive. Just honest.

Sign #2: You’re craving quiet ~ not because you’re lazy, but because your soul is trying to speak

When you’re standing at a portal, noise becomes unbearable.

Not just external noise ~ but internal noise too:

  • The pressure to decide
  • The pressure to explain yourself
  • The pressure to be certain
  • The pressure to be “fine”

Marianne’s shift isn’t powered by hustle. It’s powered by listening. By making space for the truth underneath everything she’s been carrying.

A gentle question to ask yourself:If I stopped forcing clarity, what truth might rise naturally?

One small step (no pressure):Take ten minutes with no input. No phone, no music, no “learning”. Just a cup of tea and one hand on your heart. Let your body speak first.

Sign #3: You’re drawn to healing, spirituality, or “something deeper” ~ even if you can’t explain why

This is the sign many women talk themselves out of.

They call it silly. Or impractical. Or “just a phase”.

But the pull doesn’t go away, does it?

It returns in quiet moments. In the books you choose. In the words that make you cry for no obvious reason. In the sense that you were made for something more meaningful than simply getting through the days.

In Legacy, Marianne’s path isn’t about abandoning reality. It’s about stepping into a truer one.

A gentle question to ask yourself:What keeps returning to me, no matter how often I try to ignore it?

One small step (no pressure):Write down three things you’re inexplicably drawn to right now. Don’t justify them. Don’t rank them. Just notice.

If you’re in the in-between, you’re not behind

This is the part I want you to hear clearly:

Standing at a portal doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It doesn’t mean you’ve wasted your life. It doesn’t mean you’re “too late”.

It means you’re waking up.

Marianne didn’t leap from one life to another overnight ~ she listened for the quiet truth underneath the noise, and she took one small step at a time.

You can do that too.

You don’t have to burn your life down. You don’t have to prove anything. You don’t have to have the whole plan.

You only have to be willing to begin.

If you’re standing in that in-between place…

The place where your old life still exists, but it doesn’t fit anymore ~ you’re not alone.

This so resonates. I think I have had these thoughts today and many times recently. I’ve got a great job which I love, deeply meaningful and serving so many yet I know I won’t stay. I don’t know why. Also, I think the universe is telling me that too. I set off to go there this morning and my car had a puncture the. I got in my van and started to drive and an Amazon driver literally pulled into my drive. I felt it was no, not today. There was an incident last week when one of our complex patients damaged my car and although I have compassion for her I no longer feel safe and I think it’s another sign. Over shared here no doubt but thank you for the article.

      Hello Alison,
It’s so lovely to hear from you. My apologies for not getting back to you sooner ~ I’m still getting used to my new website and only just stumbled across your message whilst looking for something else.
It sounds like you were having a really rough day. I hope things have improved. Often when we are in roles that serve others, we let the importance of not letting them down outweigh what is right for us. Keep listening to the universe; it will help you find the right direction, whether that be through one of Awakened Realm’s courses or something completely different. Reach out if you need to. jax@awakenedrealm.co.uk
I’m glad you got something from the blog.
      Love & Light
      Jax
